Exposure to antibiotic residues (eg, sulfonamides) and insecticides (eg, organophosphate insecticides) in food aquacultured may adversely affect humans and animals and thus affecting global public health.
Here, using validated methods, we examined the levels of residues of sulfonamides 12 and 18 organophosphorus insecticide on aquacultured fish in Taiwan. A total of 52 samples of fish (ie, 20 tilapia, 16 fish, and 16 samples of perch) were obtained from aquafarms Taiwan from June 2018 to October 2019. We detected 0.02 and 0.03 mg / kg sulfamethazine (sulfonamide a) in an indigo and one fish, respectively, and 0.02, 0.05, and 0.03 mg / kg of chlorpyrifos (organophosphate insecticide) in the tilapia, a fish milk, and one perch, respectively;

thus, among the samples, 3.85% and 5.77% contained sulfonamides and organophosphate insecticide residues, respectively. In addition, we assess the human health risk estimates based on daily intake (Edis) of this residue: Edis sulfonamide and organophosphate insecticide residues were <1.0% of the acceptable daily intake recommended by the Joint Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations / World Committee of Experts Health Organization on Food Additives.
The risk of exposure to organophosphate insecticide residues sulfonamide and by consuming fish farmed in Taiwan so negligible, indicating no immediate health risk associated with the consumption of fish. Our findings may constitute a reference in efforts geared towards ensuring food security and the monitoring of veterinary medicines and insecticide residue levels in the cultured organism. residue levels in fish should be carefully monitored to further determine the possible effects of these residues on human health.
